It's amazing what an impact words can make in labor. Positive and supportive words can make a woman in labor feel powerful and strong. Negative words can actually cause labor to slow and stop altogether. Cynthya Dzialo and I were asked to put together a presentation for a nursing training and we thought that this topic would be an important one to cover. This led me to create the infographic below.

another “don’t” I experienced: repetitively asking “do you want an epidural?” the excuse being, from my still-beloved husband, “I don’t like seeing you in pain”. He was asking between every contraction!! Another don’t: “I could hear you all the way down the hall!” (He had walked out to get a snack, but I started panicking because I felt so out of control, so I got a little noisy). A suggested do: if delivering in hospital, answer ALL the questions from the nurse, so Mom can relax in the shower or something!!!!
